Jute is a long, soft, shiny vegetable fibre that can be spun into coarse, strong threads. Similar to cotton, it is a very affordable natural fibre and is second only to cotton in amount produced and variety of uses. Jute rugs are low maintenance; a simple vacuuming and spot cleaning can easily remove dust build up and take care of most spills. They cannot be steam cleaned as the moisture may ruin it or lead to mildew and mould. Jute rugs are softer than most other natural fibres like sisal, seagrass, hemp etc. but are also less durable than other fibres of the group, making it ideal for low to medium traffic areas.
