Jute is a long, soft, shiny vegetable fibre that can be spun into coarse, strong threads. Similar to cotton, it is a very affordable natural fibre and is second only to cotton in amount produced and variety of uses. Jute rugs are low maintenance; a simple vacuuming and spot cleaning can easily remove dust build up and take care of most spills. They cannot be steam cleaned as the moisture may ruin it or lead to mildew and mould. Jute rugs are softer than most other natural fibres like sisal, seagrass, hemp etc. but are also less durable than other fibres of the group, making it ideal for low to medium traffic areas. It is a popular choice for beachy and cottage-style homes and creates a very cosy vibe. They also look great layered with other rugs and add a natural element to the living space.
Chenillewill look different in one direction compared to another, as the fibers catch the light differently. Chenillecan appear iridescent without actually using iridescent fibers. The yarn is commonly manufactured from cotton, but can also be made using acrylic, rayon and olefin. Cotton is a natural fibre that’s very durable and easy to maintain. They are relatively inexpensive and have a natural comfortable feel. However cotton pile can sometimes become felted and tends to attracts dirt easily. Cotton rugs are a popular selection for kitchens because smaller sizes can be easily washed.
